David Doak

 

Bio: 

Dr David Doak is a videogame designer, scientist, lecturer and bass player! He has made major contributions to some of the most critically acclaimed and globally successful console first-person shooters ever created.  He is best known for his work on Goldeneye007, a game in which he famously made a cameo appearance helping James Bond as an undercover scientist - Dr Doak.
 
Originally from Belfast, David studied Biochemistry at Oxford - after obtaining his degree and DPhil he continued his career there as a researcher and college lecturer.  However, his lifelong passion for video games led him out of academia and in 1995 he went to work at the famous UK developer Rare. At Rare, he worked as a designer / programmer on the groundbreaking first person shooters GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark for the Nintendo 64.
 
David left Rare in 1998 to cofound Free Radical Design. At Free Radical, in the role of managing and creative director, he oversaw the development of the successful and beloved TimeSplitters trilogy of games, Second Sight and Haze. TimeSplitters is often acknowledged as a major influence on many of the popular online shooters of today.
 
He is a keen bass player and enjoys performing live video game music with former gamedev colleagues as part of the “Dave Wise 5” David currently lives in rural Norfolk and lectures at Norwich University of the Arts on the Games Art & Design course.
 
He will be at his signing table throughout each day.
